Dozens participated in an event celebrating International Yoga Day at the ancient theatre in Jableh, organized by the Sports for All Federation and the Syrian Center for Yoga and Meditation in cooperation with the Indian Embassy in Damascus.

The footage shows participants performing yoga routines as spectators watched from the stands of the centuries-old arena.

"We're here today celebrating the 10th International Day of Yoga. we have organized three events in Syria. The first one is today in Jableh in the governorate of Lattakia. The second will be in the governorate of Homs. The final main day of yoga on the 21st of June will be held in Damascus at al Jalaa park,” said Dr Arshad Ahmed, Indian Ambassador in Damascus.

Mazen Issa, head of the Supreme Yoga Committee, explained that "yoga is practised in Syria at free centres under the supervision of specialized trainers."

"Every year, the number of participants increases thanks to the presence of free service centres in Syria, totalling more than 76 free service centres. There are yoga classes for children, adults, those with special needs, and for women, which is why it has spread widely in beloved Syria," he added.

In 2015, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed the first celebration of International Yoga Day, which is held annually on June 21st worldwide. This year marks the event’s tenth anniversary.
