The renovated migrant reception centre 'Lipa' was reopened near Bihac in northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday. The facility can reportedly accommodate 1.500 stranded migrants during the winter months.
The camp has been rebuilt after a fire broke out in the then-improvised facility in December 2020. It was reported that it had been in grim condition before the fire. EU special representative Johann Sattler along with an EU delegation was present during the opening ceremony, confirming that the EU spent 1.7 million Euro (1.9 million USD) on rebuilding the project while stressing the importance of solidarity in this situation.
