Protesters in Vendome gathered on the railway tracks ahead of the arrival of French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday, waving flags and banging pots and pans.
Footage features the demonstrators walking along the tracks, with police officers attempting to keep them back. Flags of the CGT (General Confederation of Labour) and SUD (Solidaires Unitaires Democratiques) unions, as well as the NPA (New Anticapitalist Party), can also be seen.
Macron was in the area with his Minister of Health Francois Braun, visiting a university hospital as part of his new domestic agenda dubbed '100 days of ambition and action in the service of France'.
Activists remain angry about the government’s pension reforms, which include increasing the retirement age from 62 to 64. Protests have been ongoing since the plans were announced in January, and intensified following the administration’s decision to force through the measures without a vote in the National Assembly.
Unions and other groups have promised to continue with strikes and demonstrations. Macron claims the changes are needed to ensure the sustainability of the system.
