Description

The neighbours of Ashli Babbitt, the woman who was fatally shot while storming the US Capitol, expressed their thoughts on her death at her home town of Ocean Beach in San Diego on Thursday.

"A US veteran died, storming the Capitol Building based on a bunch of lies, and any one of us, if I had believed those lies that could have been me," said a neighbour referring to the fact Babbitt was a US Air Force veteran and had done tours of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Many people were surprised and also condemned the manner in which Trump supporters had conducted themselves.

"Everyone has a right to speak their mind and their own opinion and to think and say whatever they want, but violence is not the way," said Verona, a neighbour.

Babbitt's office neighbour Allen had similar sentiments saying "Breaking and entering and doing it to the nation's Capitol, because someone lost, I don't think she had the right to do that."

The violence was condemned all around "a senseless death of a person, somebody's daughter, somebody's sister, maybe somebody's mom, and for what?"

Babbitt was reportedly shot in her chest by the Capitol police as she stormed the building on Wednesday.

There are now five confirmed deaths as the result of the storming of Capitol, including one police officer who lost his life on Thursday evening.
