Saudi political analyst and media personality Mubarak Al-Ati said he believes the upcoming BRICS summit in Kazan marks a 'success for Russian diplomacy' despite Western attempts to isolate Moscow on the world stage while speaking in an interview in Riyadh on Thursday.

"The fact that this summit is being hosted by Russia indeed signifies a success for Russian diplomacy and a break from Western hegemony over international decision-making," Al-Ati said.

"Countries participating in this organisation genuinely recognise the importance of Russia, the significance of engaging with Russians, and the need to open up to the Russian economy, which represents a very important global economy," he continued.

The Saudi analyst added that BRICS aims to take on the responsibility of 'rescuing' the international community from the 'unipolarity' imposed by the West.

"The G7, which embodies a single polarity and monopolises international decision-making, often imposing economic selfishness <...> and seeking to intervene in the internal affairs of nations, whether politically or economically. Thus, as an impartial observer, I see that BRICS possesses several advantages that qualify and motivate many countries to join," he said.

Al-Ati claimed that 'diversity' among BRICS members presents opportunities for the group to serve as a tool to "protect international decision-making from Western dominance" and hailed the bloc as a 'lifeline' for Arab voices in support of a two-state solution in Palestine.

"It also represents a dismantling of Western hegemony over various issues, including Arab issues, foremost among them the Palestinian issue, which is considered the central issue for the Arab world. I truly believe that BRICS represents a lifeline supporting Arab causes," he said.

The 16th BRICS Summit is scheduled for October 22-24. Leaders from more than 24 countries are expected to attend, with Russia's closest neighbours and partners in the Eurasian Economic Union and Commonwealth of Independent States also invited. Russia has chaired BRICS since January 1, 2024.
