Spanning the picturesque Dadong River Gorge, the Dadong River Cable Bridge in China’s Chongqing district has caught global attention, becoming a viral sensation on social media as the 'world’s scariest suspension bridge'.
Footage captured on Saturday shows the astonishingly slender bridge, which measures 150 metres (490 feet) in length and stretches over a 300-metre (984-foot) drop to the river below.
The bridge is just 2.7 metres (9 feet) wide - barely enough to accommodate a single car and supported solely by four steel cables. Despite its looks it can reportedly bear loads up to 45 tonnes.
The main purpose is to transport workers, connecting them to the mountain site where the adjoining Shuangbao Bridge is under construction.
Once completed, the Shuangbao Bridge is expected to become the world’s largest double-arch bridge, further elevating Chongqing's standing as the 'Bridge Capital of China'—a title earned through its network of over 20,000 bridges spanning the city’s numerous rivers.
