Description

A 'supermoon' coinciding with a partial lunar eclipse was seen in the skies over Rabat on Wednesday as two celestial events combined to create a rare astronomical phenomenon.

Footage shows the 'Harvest Moon' rising with the Earth’s shadow casting a small shadow on the surface.

The eclipse was also seen in across the Middle East, including in Egypt and Jordan, as well as in Europe and parts of North America.

Lunar eclipses occur when the Earth passes between the sun and the moon while a 'supermoon' is seen when the celestial body is closest to the planet in its elliptic orbit.

The 'Harvest Moon' coincides with the autumnal equinox, providing extra light which is said to help farmers harvesting crops like corn during the night.
