Description

Drone footage filmed on Sunday shows the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi - dubbed a 'super typhoon' - in Haikou, the capital of the island province of Hainan.

Widespread destruction is seen along the seafront, with overturned vehicles and toppled trees blocking roads. Shattered windows and damaged buildings are shown as recovery crews clear debris from the streets.

"This is the largest typhoon I've seen in more than ten years in Hainan. Although there was Typhoon Rammasun ten years ago, I feel like the wind force brought by this typhoon is even stronger," a local man said.

"The neighbourhood behind me, where you can see the many broken windows in the back, has been severely affected," he added.

A second local said the entire city had been 'almost paralysed,' adding, "Look at these rocks; they used to be the barriers, but they've been completely destroyed. These stones were part of the road in front, and now they're all broken. Take a look at the neighbourhood behind us; this typhoon is truly devastating."

The Yagi typhoon hit the Philippines and Chinese Hainan Island earlier last week. According to media reports, at least two people in Hainan as well as 13 in the Philippines.
