Dozens of fans gathered outside the Marriott Hotel in Paris on Thursday, hoping to catch a glimpse of the US basketball stars attending the Paris Olympics.

"I've been here since 3 pm; now it's 6 pm. Unfortunately, we haven't seen him yet, but I hope we're going to go and see them," said a fan.

Footage shows members of the US men's basketball team leaving the hotel as fans shout and cheer. Fans can also be seen waving and chanting 'USA' as a bus carrying the players departs.

"I really think they're going to win it. They've brought back a very strong team. The only team they have to contend with is France. But the United States has brought the best players in the world. I think they're going to make a hell of a carnage. I think they'll win the gold medal," he added.

"We came to see the US men's basketball team. Me and my friend both are from the US and we are big sports fans so we hope to catch a glimpse of the Olympics," said another fan. "Unfortunately, we were not able to get tickets for the game but we knew the hotel was here so we came out to see the players".

Despite Serbia reportedly leading for much of the game, the Americans held on for a 95-91 victory in Thursday's semi-final at the Bercy Arena.

The US will play host nation France for the gold medal in Saturday's final.
