Footage shows protesters raising their fists in the air in solidarity with worldwide demonstrations against police brutality and racism sparked by George Floyd's death, a 46-year-old black man killed as he was being arrested in Minneapolis on May 25.
Most of the protesters called an idea to move the statue "brilliant," saying it should have been removed five years ago.
"The university made loads of promises five years ago that it would come down and nothing comes of that," said Lucien Senna, a protester.
She added, "I hope today that it will be more galvanised to bring him down. Hitler was admiring of him, I mean he is a monster, Rhodes."
Esther, another protester, said the statue should be removed and put in a museum where people can learn the history, rather than "glorify" the Victorian imperialist.
