ABU Robocon 2024 participants were seen testing robots at the Quang Ninh Sports Complex, as the competition officially kicked off in northern Vietnam's city of Ha Long on Sunday.
Footage features competitors assembling and operating their robots performing planting and harvesting sequences. Dubbed 'Harvest Day' this year's event welcomed 13 teams from 12 countries across the Asia-Pacific region.
"We have improved the robot to pick up the seedlings with four hands instead of using two hands like in the qualifying round. Therefore, the robot's speed has improved by 40 per cent compared to before," said one of the competitors Dinh Hoang Anh.
"We are grateful to be here in wonderful Vietnam, and we prepared for the robot [competition] so far a long time. And we hope it will be doing great for this competition," shared another participant Rasyid Ammary Yahya.
According to the event's press service, this year's Robocon aims to raise awareness of the importance of agriculture and rice cultivation for Vietnamese culture. Robots are required to simulate tasks related to rice farming including sowing and harvesting, according to media reports.
The ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest was founded in 2002 by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union and aimed to foster friendships among young engineers and technology enthusiasts in the region.
