Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed Russia could 'only be forced into peace' during a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday.

"Putin has broken so many international laws and rules that he won't stop on his own. Russia can only be forced into peace," he claimed.

Meanwhile, Russian representative Vassily Nebenzia said that the real focus should be on the Middle East, and that "Western members of the Security Council booked this chamber in advance specifically for the PR benefit of the 'expired' Ukrainian president".

He was referring to Zelensky's presidential term, which ended in May 2024, and called him a 'usurper' who was 'brought the country entrusted to him to the abyss'.

"The Ukrainians do not wish to go to war, they are trying their best to flee the country, and those who find themselves on the front without being appropriately trained, are attempting to either desert or surrender," Nebenzia continued.

"[Kiev] should promptly embrace realistic parameters for a long-term settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, rather than constantly slipping into some unrealistic ultimatums, plans for victory, etc.," he added, claiming that Russia had been happy to live in peace with Ukraine "until it was shaped into an aggressive, Russophobic, neo-Nazi wasp nest".

Josep Borrell, the EU's foreign policy chief said the 'quickest possible way' to end the Ukraine conflict was by "Russia withdrawing their troops from Ukraine".

"Yes, there is another way. Ukrainians surrender, but we don't want this kind of ending," he admitted.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken repeated earlier allegations about the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Iran 'aiding and abetting Russia', and claimed China was the "top provider of machine tools, microelectronics and other items that Russia is using to rebuild, to restock, to ramp up its war machine." All have strongly denied arms deals, while Russia has accused Western nations of attempting to interfere in legitimate trading relations.

Zelensky is expected to present US President Joe Biden with a 'victory plan' this week. He has previously called on allies to provide the capability - and permission - for long-range strikes deep inside Russia, although US-UK talks broke up this month without apparent agreement. Moscow has warned such a move could mean war between Russia and NATO.
