Clashes broke out at a pro-Palestine rally in Rome on Saturday, as a group of demonstrators tried to push the demo further into the city centre, despite a ban imposed by local authorities in fear of disturbed public order.

Footage shows the demonstrators attempting to leave the square, where police blocked exits, which led to clashes with security forces. Police have used batons water cannons and tear gas to disperse protesters.

According to media reports, at least 30 security personnel, three protesters injured and four were arrested.

"We made a call, a simple call to say let's gather as close as possible to the palace of the living dead, to the Chigi palace, that they must listen to me. They created terrorism, they blocked the pulvani, they arrested six comrades, and I invite from this stage, I invite the Minister of the Interior to act immediately, to release the arrested comrades,” stated a protester.

According to local media, around 6,000 people participated in the demo.

Similar protests in support of Palestine and Lebanon took place across the world on Saturday, as part of International Day of Action, to stand in solidarity with civilians in Gaza.

The war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza broke out on October 7 after the Palestinian group launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

In the Gaza Strip, Israel launched a large-scale response of airstrikes and a ground incursion. Palestinian officials reported that 41,534 people had been killed and more than 96,092 injured at the time of publication.
