At least 35 people were wounded, six critically, when a truck crashed into a bus stop outside an IDF base in Gillot, north of Tel Aviv on Sunday, Israeli emergency medical services have reported.

Footage shows the truck crashed into the back of a bus, with someone reportedly pinned beneath the truck as police officers and paramedics work at the scene.

Israeli police say a preliminary investigation suggests that the truck crashed into a bus that had stopped by a bus stop to disembark passengers.

A spokesperson for Israel’s emergency medical services, Magen David Adom (MDA), said that "at 10:08 a.m. a report was received at the 101 call centre in the Yarkon region about a truck that hit a bus stop."

"Paramedics have provided medical treatment and evacuated injured to hospitals of Beilinson,  Ichilov, Meir Medical Center, Laniado, Shamir Medical Center and Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer," MDA added.

At the time of publication, MDA has reported that 35 people were injured, including six in a critical condition, five in a ‘moderate’ condition, with the condition of four others to be updated later.

Some media reports claimed the driver of the truck was a Palestinian citizen from East Jerusalem, while others identified him as an Arab Israeli from central Israel. It was reported that the driver was shot dead by a civilian at the scene.
