Description

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban attended the farewell ceremony for former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev at Moscow's House of Unions on Saturday.

Footage shows a politician, along with members of the Hungarian delegation, entering the Hall of Columns, approaching the coffin and laying flowers.

According to media reports, the Hungarian prime minister stayed at the ceremony for about 10 minutes.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov said that Orban had not expressed a wish to meet Vladimir Putin and had come to Moscow solely to farewell Gorbachev.

Gorbachev passed away on Tuesday at the age of 91.

He implemented several reforms aimed at liberalising the economy and public life after becoming the leader of the Soviet Union in 1985. During his time in office, he saw the fall of the Berlin Wall, brought the Cold War to an end, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990.

He resigned at the end of 1991, triggering the break-up of the Soviet Union.
