Description

Tartus locals kicked off the holiday season on Sunday by attending the Christmas tree inauguration to bring a message of ‘peace and love’ to the world.

People observed the tree lighting event while a children's choir performed traditional Christmas songs. The event was organised by the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry and was held in front of the Tartus Governorate building.

"This beautiful picture today expresses the love of the people of Syria for their brotherhood," said Mazen Hammad, head of Tartus Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Clerics also attended the celebration. Archbishop Dmitri hoped that the holidays will be an occasion to 'express joy,' adding that Syria had returned to 'its glory and splendour.'
