Description

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Chicago's Little Village neighbourhood for a peace march to honour Adam Toledo on Sunday.

Toledo, 13 years old, is a Mexican boy who was shot dead by a police officer last month.

Protesters could be seen holding signs, Mexican flags, performing traditional rituals and dances, and placing candles and flowers at a makeshift memorial for Adam.

"So when we're yelling and we're saying defund the police and fund our communities it's very important because Adam didn't have a chance. He was just starting his life. Say his name," one of the attendants said.

"I'm so tired of these kids in my hood not receiving the proper guidance and nurture that they deserve. And that's what I wanna cover right now with you all. Instead of us focusing on whether these kids were bad or good, gang-affiliated or not, let's talk about the complex system that was built to make us minorities fail in these hoods of Chicago," a young protester told the crowd.

On Thursday, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability released body camera footage from the fatal shooting that took place on March 29.

The footage shows police officer Eric Stillman jumping out of his car and chasing the Latino boy. Toledo turns toward the officer and begins raising his hands, as Stillman fire his weapon - 19 seconds after exiting his squad car.
