Description

Greenpeace activists on powered paragliders landed on the reception building of the ECB complex in Frankfurt on Wednesday in a protest against the organisation’s loans policy.

On the roof, they unfurled a banner reading: “Stop funding climate killers”.

“A number of studies have shown that the ECB operations favour massively oil and fossil fuel companies and therefore are more or less counteracting the Climate Paris Agreement. And we call on the ECB to align its monetary operations with the Paris Agreement,” said Marusio Wager, a Greenpeace activist.

The bank said in a statement that it was committed to climate protection which is seen by the institution as one of the greatest challenges of the century.
