Locals in the city of Butler, Pennsylvania voiced their thoughts following shooting at presidential candidate Donald Trump's rally, calling for the citizens to 'unite' and denouncing violent acts in politics on Saturday.

"Nobody deserves to be shot for their politics. It’s a rally. You go to a rally because you’re behind this guy or this guy, or whoever. Nobody deserves to be shot," said one of the locals.

Another resident recalled the first moments when she saw presidential candidate being injured while watching the rally on the feed.

"I thought fireworks were going on. We got it back on the feed, and Donate Trump was just down on the ground. All you could see was Secret Service coming on top of him and we're like: 'What happened?' Then we realised that he was shot, and then it was gunshots that we heard coming from it," said a woman.

Another resident condemned the politically 'divisive' attitude persisting within the American community, urging people to start 'getting together as a country.'

"We all want the same thing. I don't think that anybody cares to raise their kids any different than we raised ours. Everybody wants to be safe. Everybody wants to thrive. Everybody wants their kids to grow up to be part of a thriving community, whether you're friends with Trump or friends with Biden," he said.

"It's unbelievable. It can't happen, right? It shouldn't be happening in America. There's no reason for it to happen," shared another local.

"It doesn't matter who you support. No one should be trying to assassinate anyone. We should be way beyond that right? That happened in the 60s right? How does that happen now in 2024?" he added, referring to the assassination of former President John Kennedy in 1963.

Trump's campaign rally in Butler took a chaotic turn as several rows of gunfires were heard, leading to crowds screaming and calling for medical assistance, while the former president himself quickly ducked behind his lectern as was surrounded by armed security staff.

The Republican candidate was seen with blood on his face, with a bullet presumably hitting his ear, raising his fist in air before being escorted out of the site. Trump is now reported 'safe' after being checked at a medical facility.

Two individuals, including the alleged shooter and an attendee, were reported dead, while two other spectators were in critical condition. According to local media, the gunman was killed by the US Secret Service agents at the venue.

Following the shooting, US President Joe Biden had reached out to Trump and made his statements, calling the incident 'sick' and stressing that 'there is no place in America for this kind of violence.'

Other politicians in the US, including the former President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Antony Blinken also commented on the incident, condemning political violence and sending wishes to Trump.

The case is currently being investigated as a possible assassination attempt, according to law enforcement officials.
