Tehran residents were celebrating Eid al-Adha on Thursday, an occasion highly esteemed by Muslims. This celebration involves performing specific rituals, such as the precise slaughtering of sheep, and participating in the Eid prayer, as seen in the footage.

Mr Firoozli explained as he was waiting to get his sheep meat for the celebration that the roots of the tradition preceded the foundation of Islam religion itself.

“Eid al-Adha is the Eid of serving. Ibrahim (Abraham in the Jewish and Christian traditions) took his son to the altar [Arafat Hill in Islam and Mount of Moriah in Christian religion] to sacrifice his son to show his sincerity [of his faith], and in return for his sincerity, God sent the lamb to sacrifice it instead of Ibrahim's son," he said.

"This is an important day in Saudi Arabia at Mina, Hajj pilgrims are there and they sacrifice lambs. In other words, they sacrifice their temptation to honor the will of God," he continued.

People in Tehran elaborated on the importance of Eid al Adha to the Islamic community to increase integration between Islamic states.

“This Eid is the emblem of Muslim unity and integration. In fact, attending the prayer of Eid can be the reflection of Muslims' integration and unity against Islam's foes. They should know that Islamic states are united and will still stand against their adversities and ambitions”, said Hossein Bahadori, a Tehran resident arriving at the slaughterhouse in order to get his sheep meat and pray in thanksgiving.

“Approximately 1700 sheep get sold in this very center [slaughterhouse] and 70% of the sheep are slaughtered here and the remaining 30% will be used for other purposes. The objective of establishing these centers is to preserve and increase municipal public health”, explains Mr Asghari, the manager of Hakimiye Slaughterhouse shown in the footage.

Also, Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, Tehran's Friday prayer leader, led the Eid prayer in Tehran. He took the chance of the celebration to address the local community on the US and Europe cultural war against the country.

“I tell the US and Europe, 'With all the opposition that you are creating, failure is the destiny you are doomed with'”, he discoursed.

On the occasion of Eid al-Adha, the Iranian leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei exercises his authority to grant pardons or commute sentences for a select number of individuals who have been convicted by the courts of the country. This date is recognized as a public holiday in all Muslim countries.
