Description

The cloudy sky of the Turkey's Istanbul was illuminated by the Strawberry moon on Friday.

Footage shows the amber-coloured orb of the June's moon in its fullest shape shining in the dark.

This year's Strawberry moon is special since it coincides with the summer solstice, a time of year with great spiritual significance for many cultures throughout the world who have long observed the event through rituals or ceremonial rites.

A full moon occurs when the Sun and Moon align on opposing sides of the Earth. The moon will be fully apparent at 01:08 GMT on Saturday and can be observed through Sunday morning, appearing slightly larger and up to 30 percent brighter than average full moon, as reported by NASA.

The 'Strawberry moon' is believed to be named by Native American tribes for the strawberries harvested in parts of North America during this time of year.
