Description

Rio de Janeiro's iconic Copacabana Beach became a playground not just for humans but for their four-legged friends as well, as the second SUP DOG paddle boarding competition made waves on Sunday.

The event encourages dog lovers to get active with their pets, combining a love for stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) with the joy of spending time together in the water.

Footage from the event captured locals arriving with their dogs, ready to compete and have fun. Dogs were seen confidently riding boards while their owners paddled, with the winners seen being rewarded for their performances.

First-time participant Natan Vogner was thrilled with the experience.

“It was much better than I expected,” he beamed. “First time he participated, first time he was on the board, he loves the sea.”

It's not just the taking part that counts for these intrepid canine contestants and their masters, but a fun day out was still the order of the day.

“We came to win, modesty aside. But always looking for her to have fun, because something she likes to do is not just competition, she likes to do it, she enjoys it” another competitor added.

Locals praised the event that brought together dogs and owners for 'a sport that is so good for both', adding that 'dogs love the water!'.

The event was organised by the SUP school Sup Copa Posto 6 and the dog club Clube do Toto. Winners took home prizes and medals, while spectators received gifts from the organisers too.

After a successful debut in Barra da Tijuca, SUP DOG is proving to be a big hit among Rio's beachgoers.
