The Shenzhou-19 spacecraft launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China on Wednesday, carrying its three-person crew into space to the Tiangong space station.
Released footage shows the three astronauts sitting in the cabin from the spacecraft's camera. As the Long March 2F rocket launched the spaceship into orbit, a huge crowd was seen cheering and celebrating.
The launch was also monitored by engineers of the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre and astronauts on the Shenzhou-18 mission from the space station, before the images of Earth were displayed from the spacecraft's camera.
"[Rocket] launch mission achieved a complete success, thank you all!" announced an official at the launch centre.
The Shenzhou-19 took off at 4:27 am local time on Wednesday, carrying commander Cai Xuzhe and two engineers Song Lingdong and Wang Haoze. Wang is currently China's only female spaceflight engineer, and is the third Chinese woman to enter space.
According to media reports, the three astronauts will stay in space for six months, where they will conduct 86 scientific experiments before returning to Earth in April or May next year.
