00:44A warehouse belonging to a factory in New Taipei City was reduced to rubble on Wednesday after Taiwan was struck by a deadly 7.2 magnitude earthquake, killing four and injuring dozens more.
Footage shows heaps of rubble and corrugated iron where the structure once stood as emergency crews and news reporters gathered at the scene.
According to local reports, half of the five-storey building collapsed, trapping three workers on the third floor. Rescue crews were able to pull the victims from the rubble.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA) said the epicentre 7.2 magnitude earthquake was 25km southeast of Hualien County Hall at a depth of 15.5km.
Taiwan’s Central Emergency Operation Center reported that 26 buildings had collapsed in Hualien County, the area worst affected by the quake. Four people were killed by falling rocks while at least 98 others were injured by debris and falling glass.
A tsunami warning was issued in Japan’s Okinawa and several provinces in the Philippines following the quake.
Wednesday’s earthquake is reportedly the biggest to hit Taiwan since 1999 when a 7.6 magnitude tremor left at least 2,400 dead.
