Description

Police used tear gas and flashbangs to disperse protesters who had gathered outside the Brooklyn Center Police Department on Monday night to condemn the police killing of Daunte Wright.

Police started dispersing protesters after a curfew came into effect at 19:00 local time (00:00 GMT). Undeterred, protesters used fireworks in response.

Protests broke out on Sunday after Wright was killed by a police officer during a traffic stop.

According to local authorities, Wright was pulled over on Sunday afternoon but reentered the vehicle and continued driving, after which a police officer mistakenly fired at him instead of using a taser.

Wright crashed his car a few blocks away and was later pronounced dead.

The police shooting took place about 10 miles (16 kilometres) from the spot where George Floyd was killed during an arrest in May last year.
