Thousands gathered in Tehran on Wednesday for the funeral of Iran's late President Ebrahim Raisi, who, along with the Foreign Minister and several other officials, died in a helicopter crash on Sunday.

Footage shows mourners at the funeral ceremony bidding farewell to President Raisi, waving at his coffin, crying, and 'slapping' on their chests in grief as part of Shia religious mourning practices called 'Latmiyas'. Residents were also seen holding photos of President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian during the farewell.

"Our country will not stop with the martyrdom of Ayatollah Raisi and his companions and will continue on its path, and according to the saying of the leader, we will reach the top," expressed Mohammad Malihi, a resident, outlining that their 'dear leader is not alone'.

"These people who came here today [to say goodbye] will find and elect someone like Mr Raisi again, and they will vote for him with God's will, he will replace him," stated Nejadian, a local, explaining that they did not know Raisi before he was elected but they still chose him.

Amin Mahdavi Yekta, a mourner, shared that President Raisi and other deceased officials 'were people who worked very hard for the citizens and this country'.

"Today we gathered here to support our leader and tell him that, sir, you aren't alone," he added.

The 63-year-old president, his Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and others were all confirmed killed when their helicopter came down in the mountains in northern Iran’s East Azerbaijan province during heavy fog on Sunday.

Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, declared five days of national mourning. First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber is serving as acting president for an interim period, with elections scheduled after 50 days. Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani has become acting foreign minister.

Messages of condolence arrived from the leaders of Russia, India, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, and others.
