Dozens of Latin American migrants rushed to the crossing bridge Paso del Note in Ciudad Juarez to submit applications for the legal entry into the US territory.
Footage filmed on Friday shows the migrants queuing with luggage while waiting for their turn to submit documents in order to obtain legal asylum in America.
The asylum seekers were filing for their legal stay in the US via the CBP One application, which is part of new strategy to curb irregular migration and create safe routes for those traveling north and facing various threats on the way like kidnappings and extortion.
"We hope that the plan continues because in reality it is a lot of benefit for the people and for them (authorities) too, in the same way I say so they don't have to deal with people at the borders to jump, but hopefully, and I don't want it to end until Kamala Harris wins," shared Guillermo Rubio, a migrant from the Mexico's state of Michoaxan.
He voiced concerns that the CBP One programme might end if the Republican candidate Donald Trump wins the upcoming presidential elections.
"It would have to go through the chamber and they decide, it's not like Donald Trump decides it, but he can still suggest it," Rubio added.
Idania Duarte, a migrant from El Salvador, shared that she came to obtain the asylum appointment in quick fashion in fear of its removal following the US elections.
"My dreams are many and I feel blessed and grateful to God for being here where he has me right now," she expressed her relief.
Illegal border crossings into the US decreased by 78 per cent from December 2023, when a record 250,000 migrants attempted to cross without authorisation after Biden's government introduced stricter asylum claim limits in June 2024.
Republican nominee Donald Trump has pledged to launch the 'largest deportation programme' if re-elected, whilst Democratic candidate Kamala Harris plans to keep border crossings low and reintroduce the bipartisan border security bill, according to her website.
Trump and Harris face off in the presidential election on November 5. The latest polls suggest the key seven 'swing states' likely to decide the race are extremely close, with neither candidate having a decisive lead.
