Red Army servicemen can be seen crossing Sivash Bay towards the Crimean Peninsula carrying military equipment. The video also shows Soviet pilots carrying out combat operations over the heavily damaged city of Sevastopol, while soldiers can be seen fighting on the ground.
By early November 1941, almost all of Crimea was occupied by Nazi troops. The Crimean Offensive began on April 8, 1944, and ended 35 days later, as Soviet troops broke through the German defenсes and defeated the 17th Field Army of the Wehrmacht.
During the Crimean operation, the losses of the German army on land reportedly amounted to 100,000, including over 60,000 taken prisoner. Soviet troops and naval forces saw 17,754 killed and 67,065 wounded. The evacuation of the Crimea in April–May 1944 was reported to have been the most complex and extensive operation by the Romanian Navy during the World War II.
During the occupation, more than 300 industrial enterprises were put out of operation, livestock was almost completely exterminated, cities and resorts were severely destroyed - with Sevastopol, Kerch, Feodosia and Yevpatoria particularly impacted. By the time of liberation, 3,000 residents remained in Sevastopol out of 109,000 people who lived in the city before the war began.
