Footage filmed on Thursday shows Gringo ready to fight crime in his gas station uniform. The dog can be seen making his rounds in the station and using his break for some much-needed playtime with one of the employees.
According to one employee, Javier del Castillo, Gringo had been seeking food and shelter around the gas station after being abandoned at the start of the year. It was around this time that Gringo saw two robbers armed with knives approaching a employee as she was taking her break in the early morning.
"They told her to give them everything she had and that's when Gringo immediately came out and went after the robber, the other robber got scared and the two of them ran away. Even though they had knives, even though they wanted to hurt her," Castillo said.
Castillo explained that this area often experiences robberies. So, having Gringo on the team has helped employees in the gas station feel 'much more supported'.
"Gringo has become a protector here in the establishment," he added. "Because of the feat he accomplished, and thanks to that, the clients have realised this way of treating him, how remarkable his act has been, because he has truly protected."
"He doesn't really accept people with bad intentions. He senses it, he's a canine, he doesn't need to ask. He'll know if you come with good or bad intentions," Castillo continued.
Primax Peru confirmed that Gringo has now become one of their official team members. According to local media, the company now provides Gringo with a custom uniform, a shelter, regular meals, his own employee identification badge.
