Description

Dozens of protesters gathered in front of the house of Portland Commissioner Dan Ryan on Thursday night, after the City Council voted down a cut to the Portland police budget.

Protesters gathered outside Ryan's house chanting 'Black Lives Matter' slogans until police declared the protest an unlawful assembly and proceeded to clear it. Police were seen arresting one member of the press.

Thursday's protest came after a City Council vote against a proposal that would have slashed $18 million (€15 million) from the Portland police budget. Ryan, as well as Mayor Ted Wheeler Commissioner Amanda Fritz voted against the cuts.

Portland has witnessed violent protests since George Floyd's death on May 25.
