The ‘Scoop the Vote’ ice cream tour rolled into New York City on Friday to galvanise support for Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the November presidential elections.

Footage shows customers flocking to the large blue ice cream truck in Brooklyn, lining up for their free scoop of ‘Kamala’s Coconut Jubilee.’

Ben and Jerry’s co-founders, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield unveiled the new ice cream flavour as part of their collaboration with progressive organisation MoveOn Political Action. The tour kicked off in Philadelphia on Monday.

The truck will snake through over 20 states across the US until October, distributing free ice cream, topped with red white and blue star sprinkles, and urging Americans to vote for Harris in November. Volunteers will speak about the election, economic policies, and reproductive rights in a bid to sway undecided voters in key battleground states like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Arizona.

“Ice cream is such an exciting food that people have a connection to, that's what we are trying to do with this election, bring people together and beat MAGA Republicans this fall,” said one customer.

MoveOn seeks to ‘mobilise our communities’ to ‘defeat Trump once and for all,’ the organisation’s director, Rahna Epting, said in a statement.

The mango-coconut flavour is a reference to the vice president’s coconut tree meme from a 2023 speech that has resurfaced in the run-up to the election. The coconut tree soon became a show of support for the Democratic nominee.

“It's a coconut mango ice cream to honour her East and West Indian roots. We pulled lotus seeds because Kamala means Lotus in Sanskrit,” said another customer.

Other election-themed ice cream flavours are available at each stop, including ‘Unburdened by What has Vanilla Bean,’ and ‘Fight for our Rights Sorbet.’

Harris and former President Donald Trump are running a close race in key swing states after President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential election in July. The candidates face off on November 5.
