Cameroonian officials and locals gathered in Garoua on Friday for the funeral of former FIFA and Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Issa Hayatou.

Footage shows local officials and football dignitaries including FIFA President Gianni Infantino and CAF President Patrice Motsepe gathering for the funeral. Footage also shows attendees performing the Islamic funeral prayer over the casket before transporting it for burial.

During the event, Infantino and Mostepe delivered speeches commemorating Hayatou's legacy and highlighting his contributions to African football.

"President Issa Hayatou lived for African football, lived for Cameroon," Motsepe said. "The contributions of President Issa Hayatou to African football and to football all around the world are enormous, unique and exceptional, and we are immensely grateful for that."

"A great person, a great man, a great friend. It is always said that football unites peoples, unites people, unites people no matter where they come from, and Issa Hayatou with his remarkable work has been noticed by the whole world," Infantino added.

Issa Hayatou was suffering from kidney problems before passing away in Paris on August 8, just a day before his 78th birthday. He previously led CAF from 1988 to 2017 and served as FIFA President ad interim between October 2015 and February 2016.
