Crowds were seen celebrating in the streets of Jakarta on Sunday as Prabowo Subianto took oath as Indonesia's eighth President.
Footage shows locals cheering as Subianto was waving to the crowd from the car. Residents were also seen dancing and marching with flags as well as enjoying the festivities with dressed up performers parading and singers performing on stage.
"There were so many people watching him, watching the inauguration today. Our hope is that there will be changes and according to the expectations of the community, especially for the economy in Indonesia," said Zufraidah, a local.
Subianto's win comes as the third attempt at the presidency, having previously lost bids in 2014 and 2019 to Widodo. Subianto also served as defence minister under his predecessor.
Newly President-elect's cabinet of ministers is scheduled to take office on Monday as many from the Joko Widodo's administration are expected to keep their positions.
After winning the presidential election Subianto among other countries already visited Russia, China and Japan.
