Description

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7 hit near the coast of southern Peru's Arequipa region on Friday at a depth of 10 km, leaving widespread wall cracks and collapsed structures, as shown in the footage.

Luisa Flores, a resident impacted by the earthquake, recounted the harrowing experience, describing it as 'horrible.'

"I didn't know how to get out because the lights went out. With my little grandson and my son, we quickly went out to the door and stayed standing there until it all passed. People took to the streets crying desperately," she said.

"The people went to the main square with their blankets to sleep because they were afraid. They said that the sea was going to come out, the tidal wave, that's what the people said," another local added.

US National Tsunami Warning Centre have reassured the public that there is no imminent threat of a tsunami following the earthquake.

Local officials have reported a total of eight injuries, but no fatalities have been recorded. Emergency services are responding to aid affected residents, offering support and assistance.
