Abbas Khazzal, a car enthusiast from Nabatieh, southern Lebanon, has converted a vintage automobile into a modern electric car, as seen in footage filmed on Saturday.

Khazzal is seen driving his classic 1967 Renault 8 car, after carrying out the specialist upgrades. He said the idea came to him due to the fuel crisis affecting Lebanon adding: "we struggled a lot to get petrol for the necessary travels. The idea initially was to get a small automobile and apply an electronic fuel-injection conversion in order to travel within the areas."

Khazzal decided to revitalise and modify the car that had belonged to his father for many years. He started working on the engine, before upgrading the rest of the parts and components and components.

He showed the progress in pictures on his phone, recalling some of the difficulties and challenges. The hardest part, he said, was sourcing and shipping raw materials from abroad.

As a result, the car has been transformed into a fully electric vehicle that drives silently past other fuel-powered cars. Additional features have been added, such as electric windows.

According to Khazzal, it takes about six hours to charge the battery - with a range of around 200 kilometres
