Description

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed energy markets and production of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus Sputnik V with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, as seen on Wednesday in Riyadh.

"Both our countries are concerned with cooperation in fighting COVID-19. This includes working on the issue of the organisation of the third phase of the clinical testing of the Russian vaccine "Sputnik V" and localisation of its production," he underlined.

According to the Russian chief diplomat, joint actions in the format of OPEC+ bring results, which is why it is necessary to develop cooperation on international oil markets.

"It seems more than likely that we will find an opportunity to coordinate our actions to guarantee the balance of interests of both suppliers and consumers. The present price more or less reflects this balance. And it seems to me that we will strive to do so that the world economy does not suffer from any shocks and falls," claimed Lavrov.

In turn, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud remembered the attacks on Ras Tanura port and Aramco facilities in Dhahran saying they were "targeting the backbone of the global economy and its oil supplies as well as global energy security."

"The Kingdom supports international efforts aimed at ensuring that Iran does not develop nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles, to make the Gulf region free of all weapons of mass destruction, to respect the independence and sovereignty of states and to not interfere in their internal affairs," he added.

He also stated that a political solution should be reached both in the Yemeni and Syrian crises.

"We renew our support to reach a political solution to the crisis in Yemen, as the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement and the formation of the new Yemeni government is an important step in opening the way to an integrated political solution to the crisis," said Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
