Description

An airship rented by the Brazilian football team Sao Paulo Futebol Clube came down on its test flight in the neighbourhood of Osasco on Wednesday.

It was part of a promotional campaign ahead of the team's Conmebol Libertadores quarter-final game against Botafogo.

Footage shows the deflated airship, resting on the roof of a local warehouse. Police officers and firefighters can also be seen, as the emergency services were reportedly delaying the removal of the aircraft until the city's electricity provider could turn off the power to the area.

"I was cleaning my house when I went out the door and saw the airship making a loud noise heading towards my house. I went out into the yard, and started screaming, screaming, jumping and jumping, calling: Zilda, Silvana (neighbours), get out, get out, it's falling. At the time, I couldn't even think about what was happening, I just wanted to run!" local Eliete recalled. "Then I saw the crew manoeuvring, trying to stop it from landing on the house, so they diverted it to the street and fell between a warehouse and the middle of the street."

"It was a very loud sound. It seemed like the engine was turning off, you know? So it passed because it was the wind that helped, you know? So it went up, it was going to crash into my house, so it went up and ended up there," Eliana added.

Another local, Daiane, said the airship damaged a building during the fall, noting that two people were inside when it crashed.

"It was more of a scare, but from the information we have, there were two people inside the airship. It hit a house on the avenue where there was a sick girl with depression, so she left in a panic, frightened by what had happened. As far as we know, one person [of crew members] was injured, and another was trapped in the wreckage," she explained.

There were no further details on the number of people onboard at the time of publication. Local media reports stated that the airship's injured pilot was rescued from the cabin and sent to a local hospital.

The Aeronautical Accidents Investigation and Prevention Centre of the Brazilian Air Force announced the start of the investigation into the crash.
