'It was magical!' Chinese father creates handmade toys, models, costumes for daughter's attention and concentration

Zhang Shuai, a local man residing in Zhengzhou from the Henan province of China, roughly made over a dozen toys, models and costumes, including a giant pink dragon and a functioning toy train, over the span of six years to attract his daughter's attention and improve her concentration.

Footage filmed on Sunday shows models of Chinese rockets and satellites and a wearable cardboard robot costume. Zhang's daughter was also seen playing a Tetris game on her bedroom door as well as with a handmade toy tank.

"After the first toy, I handmade toys from a bunch of parts," he shared. "You can see it in my child's eyes, she felt like it was magical."

Zhang added that he began creating these toys when he was 18 and his daughter was three years old who was about to begin her kindergarten schooling.

"Children at this age were beginning to use electronic products, watching TV and playing on their cell phones," he continued. “As a father, I was more worried about the impact on her eyesight, so that is why I handmade these toys for her, to attract her attention."

Zhang further stated: "When she was over three years old[...] I can only compare with other friends' children around me to see that my daughter's concentration will be very good."

He also said that he made one of his proudest creations, the giant pink dragon, to let his daughter have a 'deeper understanding of our traditional Chinese culture.'

Zhang's creations gained popularity on social media as online users praised the father for making handmade toys, models and costumes for his daughter. His interactive cardboard pieces were also featured in some local media sites.
