The Lebanese Red Cross Society launched a blood donation campaign as Israeli strikes continued for a third consecutive day.

Footage filmed on Wednesday shows people donating blood at the HQ in the al-Hamra district in Beirut.

“Today, we launched a blood donation campaign in our headquarters because of the current security conditions and to help the wounded from the war,” said Elie Dagher, Deputy Director of the Red Cross Blood Transfusion Services Sector.

It followed reported shortages, with over 600 reported killed and 2,000 injured across the country since Monday. Dagher called on donors to head to the Red Cross centres, noting that two centres are working around the clock for this purpose.

The Lebanese Red Cross Society's account on X (formerly Twitter) wrote on Wednesday: “Urgent appeal. If you can donate blood, do it now.”

“We must not stop if we want to help our brothers and sisters, because we must stand by each other in these difficult situations,” said Lara Damj, one of the donors.

“I am from Syria, and I’ve been living here for more than 10 years," added Urwa. "Lebanon is my second country. I will certainly donate my blood when I see the Lebanese people in need."

According to Lebanon's Ministry of Health, 51 people were killed and more than 220 others were wounded on Wednesday.

Israeli media reported that Hezbollah had fired more than 30 rockets since the morning, wounding two people, one of whom was in critical condition.

Hezbollah claimed that it had targeted the Mossad headquarters on the outskirts of Tel Aviv and several IDF military sites in northern Israel.

The Israeli military began a series of airstrikes against Hezbollah targets as part of ‘Operation Northern Arrows’ on Monday.

Tensions in Southern Lebanon have escalated over the past week following the mass explosions of pagers used by Hezbollah and the Israeli strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut, which killed the group’s senior commander Ibrahim Aqeel, along with 60 others. On Sunday morning, Hezbollah launched a rocket attack on areas near the northern Israeli city of Haifa.

The Israeli army has been exchanging cross-border shelling with Hezbollah since the outbreak of the 2023 Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
