Germany's Greens Party announced Annalena Baerbock as their candidate for the chancellor bid at a press conference in Berlin on Monday, April 19, for the national election upcoming in September.
The announcement was made by Robert Habeck, who shares the leadership of the party with Baerbock since 2018.
"Annalena Baerbock is a fierce, focused, strong-willed woman who knows exactly what she wants and who will passionately represent the Green agenda in this election. She will lead us in this election campaign," Habeck said.
The election will mark the first time the Greens will have their own candidate. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is stepping down after 16 years in power. Her party, CDU, is yet to decide on their candidate.
