Description

New Zealand's annual Fieldays agricultural event kicked off at the Mystery Creek Events Centre in Hamilton, offering farmers the chance to participate in tractor competitions and showcase their latest innovations.

Footage filmed on Friday shows farmers driving their tractors at high speeds, pouring drinks using their front end loaders and carrying the drinks up with their agricultural vehicles. Meanwhile, event attendees can be seen walking around the exhibition to see the latest technology in the industry.

One of the event managers, James Acks, said that the competition aims to find the 'best digger driver' in the Waikato region.

"So, that's what it is about finding the best that's operator in the region who can then go and represent their region down to the nationals in March and fielding," he added.

Some attendees said this event is an opportunity for them to show their support to local farmers.

"We have to support our growers, we have to support our farmers, and if we can do that and also reduce food waste - which is a huge problem for growers and farmers - then it's a win-win for everyone. So, that's what we're here to do," said Dian.

Another attendee, Kelly, added that the event is 'good for the economy' as it helps get local businesses more recognition for their inventions.

The Fieldays festival, held at Mystery Creek Events Centre from June 12 to 15, opens its gates every morning at 8 am local time.

Fieldays, now in its 55th year, is the largest agricultural event in the Southern Hemisphere. It provides a platform for farmers to showcase their products and services. The festival reportedly draws over 100,000 visitors and buyers from New Zealand and beyond.
