Description

Thousands of pro-Palestine protesters marched across Mexico City on Saturday to express solidarity with people in Gaza prior to the one-year anniversary of military escalation on the Strip.

Footage shows demonstrators marching with flags of Palestine and Lebanon, as well as banners and placards. As activists gathered at the Monumento a la Revolucion, they were seen attending speeches at the rally venue and assembling a map of Palestine with flowers.

"No matter the distance, what is happening in Palestine is an experiment that affects the entire world, but even if it were not so, as human beings we cannot tolerate the extermination of a people for the ambition of another," stated Armando Soto, a protester.

"You can't say you care about something and do nothing about it. You can't justify killing children, women, the elderly when you're arming the people who are killing them," added Montserrat Grande, another rally participant.

The protest was expected to halt transport at several main roads, according to local authorities. Bolstered security measures were also noted to ensure public order.

Similar protests in support of Palestine and Lebanon took place across the world on Saturday, as part of International Day of Action, to stand in solidarity with civilians in Gaza.

The war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza broke out on October 7 after the Palestinian group launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

In the Gaza Strip, Israel launched a large-scale response of airstrikes and a ground incursion. Palestinian officials reported that 41,870 people had been killed and more than 97,000 injured at the time of publication.
