Five Palestinians were reportedly killed and others wounded during Israeli raids on Tubas and Tomoun in the West Bank on Wednesday. The Israel Defence Force (IDF) said the raids were part of a counter-terrorism operation, while Hamas confirmed that one of its fighters had been killed in an engagement with IDF troops.

Footage of the aftermath of the raid on Tubas shows blood on the floor outside a house, with bullet marks on the walls. Damage to the property and a vehicle could be seen, as well as a convoy of IDF vehicles moving down the street.

The brother of the suspect who was the alleged target of the IDF operation explained that he was detained by troops before the shootout.

“I went down the street and came across two Special Forces vehicles, a white Peugeot and a Polo. One of them was in front of me, and the other was behind me. They arrested me and asked for my full name. I told them. One of the soldiers said to his colleague: ‘This is his brother’,”  said Bahaa Daraghmeh, brother of Fayez Daraghmeh.

“They told me to call my brother and ask him to turn himself in, but he refused because he knew what they would do to him. He fought with them. He chose martyrdom over surrender, may God have mercy on his soul. The [Israeli] army attacked the house with hand grenades and gunfire. My brother refused to surrender to this brutal occupation,” he explained.

In a brief statement, the Israeli army said its forces had also carried out a counter-terrorism operation in the town of Tamoun, 5 km south of Tubas, targeting a group of militants with a drone.

The Official Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) reported that five people were killed in the IDF attacks, four in the drone strike on Tamoun and one - named as Fayez Daraghmeh - in the fighting at a house in Tubas.

Hamas has since confirmed via X that Fayez Daraghmeh was one of its operatives in the West Bank while adding that its fighters had engaged in fighting with the IDF soldiers that raided Tubas, a claim echoed by the Islamic Jihad movement.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health had not released the final death toll from Wednesday's clashes in the West Bank at the time of publication.

Tensions in the West Bank have escalated since October 7, when more than 630 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces or settlers, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. In the same period, Israel says at least 20 of its citizens were killed in attacks carried out by Palestinians in the West Bank.
