India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that agreements have been made with China over patrolling arrangements on the 'Line of Actual Control' during a press conference in New Delhi on Monday.

He added the discussions between Indian and Chinese diplomatic and military negotiators over the last several weeks also led to disengagement and 'a resolution of the issues that had arisen in these areas in 2020'.

"These discussions had in the past resulted in the resolution of standoffs at various locations," he added. "You're also aware that there were a few areas and few locations where the standoff had not been resolved."

Both China and India are members of the BRICS group, and Misri highlighted India's role ahead of the 16th Summit in Kazan on Tuesday.

"The context in which BRICS came together and how BRICS co-operation has been shaped along its three primary verticals, which is political and strategic co-operation, economic and commercial co-operation, and cultural and people-to-people cooperation, I think going ahead into the future I think these will remain the main axes of action by BRICS, and we will continue to see, as far as India is concerned, our role in BRICS as an important voice in the growing debate around the world on multipolarity," he said.

Border clashes have repeatedly occurred between Indian and Chinese troops in previous years, with one reported incident in Ladakh leading to 20 Indian soldiers and four Chinese servicemen killed in June 2020.

The 16th BRICS Summit is scheduled for October 22-24 in Kazan. World leaders from more than 20 countries are expected, with delegations expected from over 30 nations, for one of the major economic, political and cultural events of the decade.
