During his last press conference in the Rouhani government in Tehran, Iranian government spokesperson Ali Rabiei spoke on Monday about policies and challenges ahead for the inbound Raisi administration.

"Climate change and coronavirus, as man-made extremism in nature, are also challenges that the thirteenth government will face," said Rabiei and added, "The two problems of coronavirus and sanctions will continue their livelihood and psychological effects in the coming years."

The spokesperson also discussed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and how the twelfth government had decided to handle it saying, "This was the path we took. It was not wrong. We still say that moderation is the only way to succeed and overcome obstacles. We pray for the success of the thirteenth government."

The United States signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal, in 2015, which aimed to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. After the Donald Trump administration left the deal and re-imposed sanctions on Iran, negotiations are ongoing with the Joe Biden administration for a new deal.

Ebrahim Raisi will be sworn in as the new president of Iran in Tehran on Thursday thus ending Hassan Rouhani's term.
