Description

Saudi political analyst Ahmed al-Shehri said that the BRICS organisation had avoided a perceived Western 'bias' on issues like Israel, during an interview in Riyadh on Thursday, October 17, ahead of the BRICS Summit in Kazan.

"This bias has prevented these issues from being solved," he said. "We have all seen that the US financially and militarily supported Israel in its war against Gaza, disregarding hundreds of thousands of Palestinian victims," he said.

"I believe that BRICS provides a push and momentum to the Arab causes and positions without imposing certain agenda or dictates on these countries as the West and the US are doing," he added.

The 16th BRICS Summit in Russia's Kaza is scheduled for October 22-24. World leaders from more than 20 countries are expected, with delegations from over 30 nations, for one of the major economic, political and cultural events of the decade.

Russia has chaired BRICS since January 1, 2024. The group also expanded this year, growing in both size and influence to nearly half the world’s population and a third of the global economy.
