Description

Thousands of protesters from workers' unions took to the streets of Lima on Friday, demanding the resignation of President Dina Boluarte, who has recorded a historic low approval rating of just five percent, according to local reports.

Footage captures waves of demonstrators marching while waving banners and flags that denounced Boluarte's administration. Many participants were seen walking on stilts, dressed as prisoners with the faces of former Peruvian presidents, tossing money.

"We are demanding that they go home, leave the Palace now, leave the Congress because they do a lot of damage to the country and that new elections be called so that the people elect a democratic, nationalist government that is in favour of the Peruvian people and the workers," stated Geronimo Lopez, secretary of General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP).

The march was also joined by Martin Vizcarra, former Peruvian President who served his term from 2018 to 2020.

"Raise your voice energetically to tell Congress, to tell the Government, enough of so much abuse and abuse towards the common citizen. We want security, we want work, we want development. And that is not what the Government or Congress are doing," he said during the march.

President Boluarte's approval rating has plummeted to an unprecedented low, marking the lowest level for any Peruvian leader in the last 44 years, as noted by local surveys.
