Description

Christian communities lit candles and attended masses in Bethelem as part of Palm Sunday celebrations.

Footage shows Christians of all ages flocking to the Church of Nativity with olive branches, lighting candles, and attending a Palm Sunday mass.

“Prayer is the most important thing amid these times, so it helps us be patient and wise. We pray that God bestows wisdom upon our officials to work for the interest of people, spread love and prosperity rather than killings, destruction, and enslavement through false arguments that only serve their interests”, said Rami Asakriyah, Priest of the Latin parish in Bethlehem.

Palm Sunday festivities had been officially cancelled in Bethlehem due to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Celebrations have been limited to church masses and modest ceremonies.

Palm Sunday is the last Sunday before Easter when Christians commemorate the entry of Jesus Christ to Jerusalem. The date marks the 7th Sunday of the Great Lent in Christianity, lasting 55 days until Easter.

During Lent, Christians abstain from meat of all kinds and dairy derivatives while only consuming fruits, vegetables, and legumes. Palm Sunday also marks the beginning of the Holy Week.
