Israeli police arrested five anti-government protesters on charges of 'disturbing public security' during a protest at the Kfar Hirock junction north of Tel Aviv on Sunday, according to local Israeli media reports.

Calls were reportedly made on Saturday for protests to mark nine months since the start of the conflict on 7 October, demanding the return of the hostages and calling for a date for elections to be set during the current Knesset session.

Footage shows Israeli police arresting protesters and escorting one to a police vehicle. Dozens of protesters holding Israeli flags can be seen trying to free the detainees from police.

Twelve people were fined for using their cars to obstruct traffic and cause disruption. Media reported that police had declared the protest 'illegal', leading to road closures.

The Hamas-Israel war erupted after Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

In the enclave, the IDF launched a large-scale campaign of airstrikes and ground incursions, killing at least 38,098 Palestinians and injuring more than 87,705 others as of the time of publication.
