Description

A police officer was filmed being crushed by a mob of Trump supporters trying to storm into the US Capitol on Wednesday, as seen in the video.

The officer could be seen being trapped between a door and a shield and screaming with pain as the rioters pushed into him, after law enforcement was deployed to block the mob from entering the building.

The mob and police officers could be seen pushing back and forth at each other as they exchange mace spray and hit each other at one of the lower doors of the Capitol before the police officers pushed them out of the corridor.

Leaders from around the world expressed shock at the events that took place on Wednesday. President-elect Joe Biden, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and incumbent President Donald Trump all condemned the storming of the Capitol, during which five people died, including a Capitol police officer who later succumbed to his wounds.

On the day of the attack Washington Metropolitan Police arrested 62 people in connection with the storming of the Capitol, the majority facing charges of violating the curfew that was put in place by the city government as well as unlawful entry, while the US Capitol Police arrested around a dozen on similar charges.

On Friday, the Department of Justice announced that 13 people had been charged in federal court as part of joint investigations by the FBI, the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), as well as the US Marshal Service and local police. The 13 face charges including firearms offences, assault of law enforcement officers, theft of public property, and making threats against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

A further 40 people are facing charges in Washington DC's Superior Court, according to the Justice Department,
